Writing can be messy. If you’re anything like me, you probably have hundreds of unorganized docs, a plethora of half-filled notebooks, and multiple blogs you sift through for writing advice. What if there was a place you could go to for all your writing needs, de-cluttering your workspace and your mind?
If any of the above sounds like you, then I have a solution: Author Journals!
Author Journals are easy to start, fun to decorate, and extremely helpful in organizing all your writing materials. Despite the name, these journals aren’t just for published authors; writers from all walks in life and all stages in the writing journey.
So what is an Author Journal? In a nutshell, it’s like a bullet journal for writers. Except instead of tracking your mood and habits, Author Journals are used to track writing and keep you on a path for success. As I said, starting one is easy: all you need is a bullet journal and some colored pens. If you aren’t sure how to decorate your pages, I’ve found searching Pinterest for bullet journal layouts is a great way to get inspiration.
Next, just add whatever pages you’d like! I’ve personally found my Author Journal helpful for tracking how much I write, which in turn motivates me to write so I have something to log. I also use the journal to keep track of monthly writing goals, which ensure I make steady progress in my writing. On top of that, Author Journals are a great place to store notes from helpful writing articles. This way you can come back to them without the hassle of searching for them.
There are a ton of other things you can add to these journals, such as inspiration, random ideas, and tips for fighting writer’s block. If you’d like to learn more about what to add to an Author Journal, consider subscribing to my email list, where you’ll gain access to my 10 Pages to Jumpstart Your Author Journal.
Let me know in the comments if you decide to start a journal of your own. I'd love to hear about all the fun pages you add to it!
You put a bug in my brain with this one! For the past two days, I’ve wanted nothing more than to create a scrap journal with quotes, author thoughts, and scrap memories. I’ll look up some inspiration and probably start tomorrow. Thanks for covering this topic!
