The day shadows stop moving, and the wind holds its breath.

The day clouds fall to ground, and life clings to death.

The day elms hold their leaves close to their branches,

The day birds stop chirping, and squirrels quit their dances.

The day every human eye is drawn to the heavens

Where an uprising takes place, a battle of passions.

“Mutiny!” the sun yells as the moon covers its eye.

“Your reign is unfair,” the moon says with a cry.

“I want a share in this day you speak highly of.”

“I’ve given you glimpses; it should be enough!

This betrayal is outrageous, for never have I

Intruded on the night which you watch with one eye.”

How long will this bickering last? That depends,

But the sun wins the duel, and the two are still friends.

The moon goes back to its place without tears,

And there it stays, at least for two years.
