Summer of Strange: An Ancient Practice

Every bookworm knows how it goes. You buy books to read later, but you're reading so many books, it feels like you'll never get around to them all. But you might. So you keep buying more to save for later.

In Japanese, this process is called tsundoku. Derived from the words "doku" for reading, and "tsumu," which means to pile up. Now, whenever your friends tease you about how many books you own, you can just tell them you're practicing tsundoku. It will make you sound cool and help you draw the conversation away from your growing hoard.

While you're telling them about tsundoku, you can also tell them about book lovers day, which is August 9th! A great way to celebrate would be to have a reading marathon and work through some of your tsundoku pile. I've never done a reading marathon before, but I might try it this year. I have a pretty large tsundoku pile myself.
