"There is the old saying that the road to true love doesn't run smoothly, but thanks to thousands of Mills & Boon romance novels, we hope that the M6 toll will.”
This is what project manager Richard Beal had to say about the construction of England's M6 toll road, which included the use of 2.5 million Mills & Boon books. While this may come as a shock to some book lovers, rest assured it was all in the name of recycling.
The books used hadn't sold and had been returned to the factories, where they would probably have been thrown away if Beal and his team hadn't chosen to use them. When you think of road construction, you probably don't think of using books, but the absorbent nature of the paper made it a great adherent to hold the asphalt together.
We already knew books were amazing, but it's awesome to see how they are quite literally paving the road for society.
Amazing!
