People usually think of math and writing as two parallel lines that never meet, so it's interesting to see where they cross each other's paths. One such occasion was the first book bought on Amazon. Nowadays, Amazon sells millions of books every year, and it all started with a math book and a man named John Wainwright.
Not to be confused with the author John William Wainwright, our John was a software engineer and heard about Amazon's first public testing from one of his friends who was an Amazon employee. The book John bought was Fluid Concepts and Creative Analogies: Computer Models of the Fundamental Mechanisms of Thought. You can still buy it on Amazon, and its contents appear to be as much of a mouthful as its title.
When I researched Amazon's first book sold, I honestly wasn't expecting this answer. However, this story is a reminder that the world of writing is rarely what you expect.
